1982-1983 Raleigh Burner (Mark I)
The following anecdote comes straight from Ginger Paulo's post on the Raleigh Burner Forum and it is such a great tale that I just had to share it...

"One of my dad's mates is a Raleigh Dealer (
www.cjfrostcycles.co.uk) and he recalls being hounded in the early 1980's by loads of kids wanting to know when the Raleigh BMX was being released (something he, nor any other Raleigh Dealer knew at the time).  He phoned Raleigh and asked whether the rumour that they were introducing a BMX was true.  The guy from Raleigh said NO, they weren't making a BMX...
they were making SEVEN!
Raleigh may have been late to the party, but they bought some mean gifts with them..."

Mk I Brochures (1982 to 1983)

Brochures
By the early 80s BMX had been around in the UK for a couple of years, however Raleigh were slow to adapt (preferring to persevere with their Grifter line).  It took Raleigh until 1982 to jump on the BMX bandwagon (no doubt inspired by the commercial success of E.T.) and the 1983 catalogue saw the last appearance of the Raleigh Grifter.

Home Shopping Catalogues

Home Shopping Catalogues
Before everyone had a "flexible friend" in their pockets you needed a home shopping catalogue if you were going to purchase on "the never never..."

The advent of internet shopping and credit cards have sounded the death knell for catalogue retailing, however you can still relive those childhood days when you would pour over the pages of the Christmas Catalogue - right here.  Now!
