"Everyone starts off with the bike that they had as a kid don't they?
I'm no exception! One day, out of naive curiosity, I typed the words
'Super Burner' into the eBay search engine - the rest as they say is history!
I didn't realise what a Mecca of trade eBay is for Raleigh Burner stuff...
Wheels, grips, chain, pedals, and tyres all came from eBay and I also found some
pretty neat gold nailvarnish which does a pretty good job of covering cuts and
scrapes to that notoriously hard to recreate gold finish.
The handlebars have been stripped of the gold, but they are original. I
re-sprayed the forks and stem top back to their beautiful glossy black. It
was a great feeling to get on it and blaze down the road (for the first time in
20 years). I have no problems admitting that I am probably going through
some kind of premature, mild, mid life crisis! Neither do I hide away from
admitting the amount of nostalgic pride, joy and excitement that I get from
restoring these items that meant so much to me as a kid..."

Back in the day...
It must have been late '83 / early '84 and I had nagged my parents enough to
warrant a visit to the local Raleigh dealer with my Mum. When we arrived,
sure enough there was what I dreamt of; the Mk I Super Burner (hoisted up
proudly on display behind the shops counter). It took no time at all to
convince my unwitting Mother that this was THE bike to have, so a deposit was
placed and my brother and I would return in the next day or two to pick it up...
The big day came and we arrived to pick up the Super Burner where the shopkeeper
told us that that the last Super Burner had already been sold. Slightly
disappointed I settled on a Blaze Blue Burner and off we went. I rode the
Blue Burner for a day or two up and down the lane getting used to my new ride.
However, when my mother saw it she went mental! Yes, you guessed it - the
last Super Burner had been sold - but to US! It was still in the storeroom
of the shop waiting
for us to
return. The breakdown in communication was recognised and we returned the
Blue Burner to the shop where I finally got the Super Burner - the one I REALLY
wanted..."
